Morning Ritual by Alexis Costa

Morning Ritual by Alexis Costa

What you do first thing in the morning sets the tone for your entire day. Every morning we start fresh. It’s a new day to manifest whatever it is we wish for in life. Every day is a new opportunity, so what will you do with it?

Time is a valuable asset and we can learn to use it to our advantage.

Creating a morning ritual increases healthy habits and happiness. Waking up early gives you time to get stuff done in the morning. You can be productive before going to work by checking off chores, focusing on your personal goals, or both. Doing this in the morning will set you up for success giving you more energy, mindfulness and strength.

My 2019 resolution was to become a morning person who could get things done early and create more time to focus on things that bring me joy in life.

My morning ritual has become something I look forward to almost as much as going to bed at night (which fun fact: is my favorite part of the day). Most importantly doing yoga in the morning has made a profound influence on my productivity and positivity. I find that my anxiety levels have decreased as I have time to digest my thoughts and emotions before connecting with the outside world.

My yoga practice has changed my life in so many ways and is now enhancing my days as I’ve chosen to add my practice to my morning routine.

The first thoughts that come into your head in the morning make up your mindset. You can choose to consciously change the perspective of your thoughts to start your day with an optimistic attitude. Morning meditation allows us to start the day with clarity. Observing and acknowledging our thoughts eliminates the opportunity to get lost in the chaos of our own mind. It eliminates negative thought patterns and builds up the momentum for a good day.

When we practice the physical yoga asanas in the morning, we are essentially waking up the body’s systems. Through the activation of our muscles it stimulates our nerves and circulation through the body. Yoga has a great effect on the endocrine system which keeps you balanced. The physical practice gets the body’s systems going, warming up the digestive system increasing your metabolism. There are poses that stimulate the pineal gland which enhances the production of melatonin bringing some normalcy to your sleep patterns.

In a study conducted by the Yoga Biomedical Trust in London, 94% of participants with anxiety were significantly helped by practicing yoga regularly each morning, and 82% of those with insomnia reported valuable benefits too.

A part huge part of the yoga practice is breath work. Mindful breathing increases the flow of fresh oxygen, waking up the brain. This energy boost won’t fizzle out like a caffeine kick, in fact it will last all day.

Give yourself the gift of feeling balanced and energized for your day by adding yoga to your morning ritualalexis
