A simplified answer to the complex healing art: What is Reiki?

A simplified answer to the complex healing art: What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. In 1914, Matiji Kawakami, a Japanese therapist, founded Reiki.   It is administered by a light touch of ones hands on the receiver’s body.  It can also be done by hovering hands over the receiver.  Advanced practitioners can send Reiki from a distance and to different points in time!  That’s right, Reiki can travel through time.  The healing art is based on the idea that an unseen, life force energy called ki, flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s ki is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A skeptical mind might ask, “But, how does it work?”  There are many ways to answer this.  We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.  Reiki replenishes and balances these systems.

Those of us that live in the western culture with strong beliefs in western medicine and scientific theories based on research probably want more information.  You will not be disappointed.  There is science behind Reiki healing.  Reiki energy connects to parts of the nervous system.  The most powerful energy points in the body all start in the central nervous system from the brain runs along the spinal cord.  Reiki connects to the central nervous system and identifies weakness and excess.  It is then used to create a balance.  Reiki strengthens the parasympathetic nervous system bringing the body into rest and digest mode.  A study done at the Helfgott Research Institute at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, showed that Reiki has a measurable effect on the immune system. The Autonomic Nervous-System-Changes During Reiki Treatment: A Preliminary Study, showed a reduction in blood pressure and heart rate This study examined the effect of Reiki on the white blood cell counts and revealed that Reiki treatments increase white blood cell counts.

The powerful, non-harming, healing art of Reiki has numerous benefits including but not limited to stress reduction, improved digestion, improved sleep and strengthens the immune system.  If you are still in disbelief try it for yourself.  Book a Reiki treatment with us!
